The Red Arrows Thrill the Crowds at This Year's Biggin Hill International Air Fair

Over 100,000 spectators are expected to descend this weekend to the Biggin Hill International Air Fair – one of the world’s most famous aviation events.

Held each year at Biggin Hill Airport, Europe’s largest privately run air show features six hours of display flying on both days – with aircraft ranging from the historic and heroic, to modern, state-of-the-art machines. Some of the highlights at this year’s event include a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, with Hurricane and Spitfire fighters; and the first display in years by the formidable Avro Vulcan V-bomber.

As well as these spectacular flying displays, at this year’s event the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team – the Red Arrows – will be performing a special flypast in a V-formation with a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747-400 at 2pm on the Sunday.

Led by Red 1 – Wing Commander Jas Hawker, Officer Commanding and Team Leader of the Red Arrows – the world-famous ‘Diamond Nine’, who will also be appearing in a new livery at this year’s event, will join in formation around the aircraft as they fly together over the English Channel.

The formation will then fly over Canvey Island and pass near Gravesend, Dartford, Croydon and Oxted, on the way to thrilling the expectant crowds at Biggin Hill, where the Red Arrows will then release their signature red, white and blue smoke to mark the occasion.
